Healing Happens Here

Our yoga is not like anything you would normally experience in a yoga studio. We offer Kundalini, Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga, KUNDINYASANA which is a combination of both Kundalini and Vinyasa as well as Meditation Classes and Sound Healings. These yogic modalities are not found together or even separately at most yoga studios. This type of yoga focuses on the nervous and endocrine system of the body to promote overall health and wellbeing.

By connecting with the Soul, the body and mind heal

The challenge is to silence the mind

Yoga consists of breathing, movement, and sound and our classes are designed to give you the full yogic experience. You will experience various Yogic science methods, targeted breathing classes, meditation classes, and various healing modalities including sound healings. One of the main purposes of yoga is to prepare for meditation and meditation is experienced in every class. During our sound healings the student remains in a relaxed position often lying down to receive the sound currents from various sound instruments such as harmonic crystal bowls, planetary gongs, harps, Tibetan singing bowls and/or mantra chanting. This type of yoga focuses on the nervous and endocrine system of the body to promote overall health and wellbeing.

Yoga is the journey of the Self, through the Self, to the Self. – The Bhagavad Gita

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Classes

What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is the Yoga of Awareness and Happiness. You will not be the same after practicing. Some refer to this type of yoga as an express train to enlightenment. It awakens the energy of consciousness, the Ong. Ong is the primal sound current from which all creativity flows. Ek Ong Kar or source energy, is the vibration and the consciousness of the universe. It is creation itself. Practicing this type of yoga sheds light on our self-imposed limitations, removes physical and energetic blocks and invites us to develop our intuitive mind. Living from our intuitive mind is one of the main goals of a Kundalini practitioner. Kundalini Yoga is very healing for the endocrine and nervous systems. It balances the brain and strengthens the entire body from the inside and out, so we can lead a more healthy, vibrant and balanced life. Kundalini Yoga is a specific proven science. It is a 5000 year old practice that was not shared with the masses until Yogi Bhajan brought the teaching to the West in the late 1960’s. When we apply this yogic technology to our bodies and minds, it has the effect of uplifting the spirit. It is for everyone, it is universal and nondenominational. “In Kundalini Yoga the most important thing is your experience. It goes right to your heart. No words can replace your experience. Your mind may accept the words or it may not, but your consciousness will not accept just words.”Yogi Bhajan

How Does Kundalini Help The Brain?

Kundalini Yoga works on your brain, endocrine system and nervous system. For thousands of years yogi’s have understood these effects. Modern science is now catching up to this applied yogic science and recent studies have show how beneficial Kundalini Yoga can be for health. Specifically for treating early signs of Dementia, Alzheimers and other neurological conditions.

What is Energy Healing?

Energetic Healing is an umbrella term for any therapy that manipulates the energy circuits in our physical or subtle bodies to regain balance and facilitate our body’s innate healing mechanisms. Some of the more well know therapies that fall under the heading “energetic healing” include Reiki, Reflexology, Kinesiology, Thought Field Therapy and Acupuncture. However, energetic healing also encompasses lesser known natural therapies such as: Aura and Chakra balancing; Flower and Vibrational Essences, Crystal Healing, Colour Therapy, Spiritual Healing, and other forms of bodywork. Energetic healing practitioners are ususally trained in a number of modalities and will combine these in their own unique way. Many combine intuitive skills with their practical and theoretical skills. Energetic healing takes a holistic approach that looks beyond the physical to manipulating the subtle energy systems (meridians, auric bodies, chakras, nadis) where the cause of the dis-ease can be located. Trauma, emotional and mental stress, false belief systems, physical distress, environment stress, and other blocks to our personal growth can be stored in the energy fields of our bodies, impacting our ability to function at our full potential. Energetic healing facilitates the healing process by clearing blocks in the energy fields, repairing and rebalancing the energy so that the body can move to its optimal level of balance from where it is able to access its inherent ability to heal itself. Energetic healing can also help identify “issues” before they manifest as pain or similar distortions in the physical body. It opens our consciousness to the areas we need to work through and heal in order to bring our lives into balance and maintain health, harmony and vitality.

What is Sound Healing?

The speed and vibration of sound can be felt throughout the entire form. Have you ever felt the sound of a gong playing? Different sounds can cause different vibrations in the brain and the body. The most healing sound for your body is the sound of your own voice. This is why mantra, singing, toning and chanting are so good for you brain and your endocrine system and used so prevalently in Kundalini Yoga. Different sounds can balance and synchronize the brain so it is more alert, focused or relaxed depending on the frequency of the sounds. The result is a healthier body and a happier person. While each client has his or her own unique experience, below are some of the benefits you may experience during the course of or even after a BHS session. Sound work is “creating a frequency and vibration for someone that’s conducive for him or her to heal. Sound healing is trending up. It’s like where yoga was 15 years ago. People are realizing that sound is a viable medium to address distress, enhance learning, even work with an autistic child.” Joshua Leeds, the author of The Power of Sound and an expert in the field of psychoacoustics, the study of the effects of sound on the human nervous system.

Class Etiquette and Rules

Please arrive in plenty of time to sign in at the front desk and get your mat set up before class. If you arrive more than 5 minutes after class is scheduled to begin please do not disrupt the class by loudly setting yourself up. If you do arrive late during a quiet moment such as the tune-in, please wait in the lobby until the tune-in is complete and you see movement and then slip in quietly.

  • Turn off cell phones, pagers and watch-alarms when you arrive at the studio.
  • If you arrive before the previous class has finished, please observe silence, enjoy the tea and the shopping in the boutique.
  • As you settle on your mat before class, please maintain the peaceful atmosphere with silence or talk quietly.
  • Be mindful of personal hygiene in our small space. The practice of yoga is a beautiful thing, but sometimes it can turn us into hot, sweaty messes! Applying deodorant and wiping down your feet before class is a smart habit to get yourself into. Your neighbor loves and respects you but doesn’t want to smell your stinky feet or body odor!
  • Please wear clean clothing.
  • Use tissue if you have a cough or need to sneeze or blow your nose (we share yoga mats, bolsters and blankets, so please be mindful of passing germs)
  • Clean up after yourself in the bathroom. Everyone enjoys a clean bathroom and nobody wants to clean up after someone else’s bathroom mess.
  • Which brings us to our next policy: take it easy on perfumes or colognes. These scents can become overwhelming. Some people are allergic or sensitive to certain smells. If you are allergic to incense or Palo Santo please let us know.
  • Showing up to the studio at the right time is crucial not only for your personal practice, but for your teachers and peers as well. Showing up late (which includes a minute before class begins and right as class begins) is even more hectic and stressful. You deserve some “down time” before class starts. Arriving 15 minutes prior to the start of time is perfect for all parties! It gives you enough time to relax and meditate before class and it allows the teacher to prep the studio for class.
  • Inform the teacher before class if you are pregnant, or have any injuries or health concerns that may require special attention.
  • If you need to leave early, please leave before savasana so as not to disrupt other students.
  • Listen to your body. Practice at your own level; if you need a rest you always have the option of child’s pose. If some of the poses are too challenging or if something doesn’t feel right, rest or take a more basic variation of a pose.
  • You are invited to enjoy our yogi tea in the lobby. You may bring a closed-top water bottle with you into the studio.
  • Students are welcome to use our studio mats and props at no charge. These can be found by the back door. Please wipe down your mat with provided disinfecting wipes after use. Note: We periodically clean our studio mats with hot water, mild detergent and bleach, the blocks with alcohol solution, and we wash the blankets with mild detergent. And we wash the blankets. However, we can’t guarantee the cleanliness of our studio equipment. If you practice regularly we strongly recommend that you obtain your own mat/ blanket.
  • We keep all found items in studio for one week. We are not responsible for lost articles. If you bring valuables with you, you may bring them into the studio with you. Do not leave them by the front door.
  • CommuniTea reserves the right to refuse admittance to anyone who is disturbing the peace and serenity of other student or staff, who practices in an unsafe manner, or who fails to follow the teacher’s instructions.
  • Be kind to everyone!
  • Laugh and have a good time!
