For many of us, especially women, hormone regulation is big deal.
Women are constantly changing. Every 2 ½ days our hormone levels shift. If we are not managing our endocrine system properly then we can experience moodiness, tiredness, fatigue, weight gain, bloating, irritability, brain fog, pms symptoms, headaches, peri menopause and menopause symptoms, thyroid issues and the list goes on and on. For years I struggled with hormone imbalances, that only became worse with adding hormone treatments supposedly used to help balance my body. In reality these hormones treatments made me much worse. They taxed my system and led to a whole host of other issues, that required further medical treatments and procedures.
I always knew exercise was good for me, and I knew yoga and meditation made me feel better, but I did not know the technology of Kundalini Yoga. Kundalini yoga works beautifully on the endocrine system. It is the perfect tool to regulate hormones and help us lead healthy balanced lives. This type of yogic science is specifically targeted to get our glandular system to secrete. Our glandular system is directly connected to our nervous system and when our nervous system comes into balance, we become disease and symptom free. Kundalini yoga reduces stress and anxiety. When we practice this type of yoga, we effectively move our bodies out of the sympathetic (fight or flight) response into the parasympathetic (relaxed) state.
Yogi Bhajan said the “glands are the guardians of health”. They are the basis of our emotional mental physical and spiritual health and well-being. Summer Solstice is here. The official date is June 21st, and when it’s the summer solstice Yogi Bhajan said that naturally our blood chemistry changes. This means the glandular system is changing, because the glandular system which produces hormones secretes into the blood stream. Also there is an exocrine system where hormones get released outside of the body, like sweat and tears. All the hormones that released into the bloodstream affect the mind and the emotions. And when we reboot the glandular system we put it back into balance. It’s like rebooting a computer to make it function better. When the glandular system is in balance were less reactive, less emotional and less high strung. When it gets a reboot, it goes into balance and the result is we actually change the patterns in the brain. The result is we’re not as reactive to the stressors in the environment. We have a sense of peace and well-being. Things can just roll off our backs. Our relationship to the outer world changes and we walk through it with grace, ease and bliss.
Yogi Bhajan, who brought the ancient teachings of Kundalini Yoga to the West, delivered thousands of lectures and kriyas specifically targeted to the endocrine system and hormonal balance. Yogis have perfected the art of movement, breath work (pranayama) and meditation to get their bodies functioning at optimal capacity. These practices can take us out of our neurotic emotional patterns that lead to commotion in our lives and deliver a sense of well-being and grace.
